Pakistan is expected to invite trade officials to its expo later this year, new high commissioner NaelaChohan says.
Chohan presented her letters of credence to Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio at  Government House yesterday.
She expressed her desire to enhance bilateral relations in trade, defence cooperation, education, diplomacy and people to people contact.
“My mission during my tenure is to enhance bilateral trade relations between our two countries. I will be inviting the (PNG) Minister of Trade to attend Expo Pakistan in Pakistan at the end of the year,” Chohan said.
“I also plan to meet with the PNG Defence Force commander to explore the opportunity for a defence cooperation.”
Another area of interest is a diplomatic academy.
Chohan said Pakistan was happy to provide scholarships and training for Papua New Guineans.
Sir Michael said Pakistan has established diplomatic relations since 1977.
“There is greater need to encourage more cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
“PNG is interested to explore new areas of trade, economic and technical cooperation in the areas of SMEs (small to medium businesses), textile, medicine, agriculture, education, science and technology and tourism,” Sir Michael said.
