PAPUA New Guinea Foreign Affairs Minister Ano Pala is this week attending a democracy forum in Bali, Indonesia.
Pala is attending on behalf of the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill.
O’Neill said the Bali Democracy Forum IV was focussed on efforts towards enhanced people participation by way of responding to democratic voices and relevant issues involved in the process.
He said the forum started yesterday and will end tomorrow at the Bali International Convention Centre with the theme “Enhancing democratic participation in a changing world”.
“Papua New Guinea is among 54 participating countries from the Asia-Pacific region where leaders are expected to discuss issues including the ability of the State to respond to the voice of democracy and ensuring democratic space for civil society participation.
“It is expected that 15 heads of State will attend the event.
“A total of 66 countries and international organisations will attend as observers.
“I am pleased that PNG is taking part in this important event and I am looking forward to Pala’s brief upon his return from Bali,” O’Neill said.
