A CASH prize of K45,000 is up for grabs in the week-long Ano Pala soccer and netball tournament currently underway in Kalo village, Rigo District in the Central province.
The biggest ever cash prize tournament was officially opened by Pala and local businessman Mark Vali on Monday.
The opening was witnessed by more than 2,000 villagers from around the neighboring villages of Kamali, Makerupu and the wider Hula communities.
A total of 40 teams participating in the one-week tournament are vying for the prize money.
Four clans in the village are taking part with their seniors teams in the soccer and netball games that make up 20 teams each for the two codes.
Tournament organiser Kala Kila said all teams participating were from Kalo village alone and this would be the second consecutive year that the Rigo MP had stepped in to sponsor the tournament in the village.
Kila also said all teams participating in the tournament would be awarded with cash prizes from the K45,000 and a total of 200 food hampers would also be distributed to all the spectators during the tournament.
The Kalo soccer and netball tournament will be officially closed by Pala this Saturday.
He will also use the occasion to hand over a Lucas sawmill worth K90,000 and a tractor with accessories worth K130,000 to the village.
Similar tournaments will also be held at Hula, Makeupu, Kamali, Alukuni, Karawa and other Rigo villages in the coming weeks.
