PAUL Karia, 37, from Poloko village in Pangia, Southern Highlands, requires immediate surgery to his air way (glottis chink) to restore his voice box.

He needs to travel to Australia for the operation and that will cost an estimated K60,000.

Angau Memorial Hospital head and neck surgeon Dr John Garap said Karia developed severe stidor in Lae and an emergency tracheotomy was carried out in August last year.

Before the tracheotomy, Karia’s vocal chords had been assessed to be paralysed.

He was discharged after a proper airway was established but had to regularly attend clinics.

One such review revealed that there was palsy of the vocal chords that required immediate surgery to restore his voice box.

Those who want to help can deposit donations into account number 1002352050 at BSP Waigani.
