Pangu president confirms appointment of Saonu as new leader

THE Pangu Pati executives have appointed Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu as the new party leader to replace Sam Basil.
National president Patrick Pundao said they agreed to appoint Saonu as acting parliamentary party leader but were waiting for the MPs to resolve “some party issues”.
The executives had asked deputy party leader and Goilala MP William Samb to take over the leadership but he refused. Samb said they had all resigned from Pangu.
“He (Samb) told me in my face that they (15 MPs) have all resigned from the party and they were no longer party members,” Pundao said.
Party executives said Bulolo MP Sam Basil was no longer the party leader. Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphonse Gelu said the party constitution allowed the party council to appoint a party leader.
Gelu said Basil had submitted to his office an intention to register a political party called Our Party.
But it would take some time before a political party certificate is issued.
