Pangu welcomes Ling-Stuckey

THE ruling Pangu Pati has welcomed the appointment of Kavieng MP Ian Ling-Stuckey on Tuesday as Treasury Minister.
Forest Minister Solan Mirisim said in a statement that Ling-Stuckey had many constructive ideas to contribute to the progress of Papua New Guinea.
“Prime Minister James Marape’s decision to appoint Ling-Stuckey from the Opposition for a senior portfolio in Government has the full support of Pangu Pati MPs,” he said.
“Marape consulted widely and put a lot of thought into this before making the decision.
“Cabinet appointments are entirely his prerogative.
“He could have decided this on his own but he was open and transparent.
“He decided to look at all corners of the House before settling on Ling-Stuckey for the important task.”
Mirisim said the enormous task of restoring the economy to a healthy path that would re-ignite hope for all citizens and businesses meant Marape had to pick the person with the right credentials and experience.
“For two years Ling-Stuckey has not only been critical in a very constructive way on how the O’Neill Government had handled the economy.
“He was also offering solid fiscal and monetary policy alternatives to help overcome a deepening crisis.
“Those worthwhile alternatives were largely ignored for partisan political reasons, and that is why we are where we are today,” he said.
Mirisim said the first person to criticise the appointment would be the very person responsible for pushing this nation to the edge of a fiscal cliff.
He said MPs should leave such politics asside and work together.

  • Well done PM Marape. Excellent appointment, the new Treasurer. Hon. Ian raised a lot of issues as opposition MP on Treasury affairs. Now is the time to test him. Whether he is real or not. PM, this is good appointment. Now the pressure is on Hon. Ian to prove his medicine will work and fix, repair our economy.
The new Treasurer should immediately put in a suplimentary budget. This will stablise the economy after the take over of government by Pangu Pati.
    Good luck new Treasurer.
