THE Shorncliffe-Papindo group of companies chief fire officer plans to extend fire-fighting knowledge and skills to its branches around the country.

Chief fire warden James Sidon told the National that this would ensure that all company employees from Papindo would be trained with basic fire prevention skills to save lives and properties in cases of emergency.

Sidon and 11 section heads from departments are currently undergoing a one-week “planning great escape” training in collaboration with Lae fire service under Chief Superintendent Bal Kenna.

“It was crucial to educate section heads with practical know-how and know what to do in planning fire escape involving emergency evacuation approaches and responsibilities,” Sidon said.

Sidon said after the training, the skills would be imparted to its employees in Lae branches followed by other branches nationwide.

The company provides its own fire-fighting equipment to enhance officers with skills in using the resources.

Kenna said it was crucial for companies and government agencies to have in place emergency evacuation mechanisms.
