Papuan Blacks bag women’s league title

 THE Port Moresby Papuan Black Snakes women’s representative team has conquered all to win the inaugural national rugby league championships.

The Port Moresby outfit beat Goroka Lulumes 18-0 to win the final at the Sir Danny Leahy Oval in Goroka on Sunday.

The Port Moresby women opened the scoring through prop Dela Audama within the first 10 minutes to take a handy 4-0 lead.

To take a confident 10-0 lead to the break, skipper and PNG Palais representative player Lillian Mulake powered over for their second try.

The city girls did not look back from there with lock Hilda John and full back Nany Digal finishing off the second half with further tries for a convincing win.

The other centres that took part were Lae, Mt Hagen, Banz, Chimbu, Kainantu, Jiwaka and hosts Goroka. 

Port Moresby women’s rugby league president Elice Siki thanked Women in League president Susan Searson for her continued efforts to promote the game among women.

“This win belongs to those that had trust in us and this includes sports vice-minister Labi Amaiu, PNG Gaming Board of Control, MVIL and Cummins,” she added.

In the earlier matches, Port Moresby beat the Lulumes 18-4, Banz Besta 16-4 and Minj Jets 18-0 in the semi-final
