THE NETBALL competition in the BSP PNG Games got underway yesterday at the San Remo Sports Precinct in Kimbe.
Team NCD and Central opened their campaign with impressive wins over their opponents on day one of the competition. Both teams were dominated by young but experienced players from the tough Port Moresby netball competition.
With the city competition now into recess, many of these players were plying their trade with the Public Servants Netball competition and also the Private Companies Netball competition and were selected to represent Central and NCD at the Games.
Team Central started off with an easy win on forfeit against Eastern Highlands and then defeated Northern in the second match 19-3.
Central on the other hand proved too strong for Chimbu winning 18-2 and also outclassed hosts, West New Britain 15-9.
Madang, who won on forfeit against EHP, did not play well when they went down to Milne Bay 29-22.
Milne Bay proved they were the better side in the eastern part of Papua by beating Northern by 20 points (37-17) to keep their hopes alive for the finals.
