Paramana shoot down Telstars

THE Port Moresby Netball Associations’ premier grand final on Saturday saw the lasses of Monier Paramana come from behind to take the 2010 premiership title from defending champions Esco Telstars 28-23 winning the Rexona Trophy.
Telstars went in all fired up with a strong seven that held the lead confidently for the first two quarters with captain Mona-Lisa Leka and Raka Nope directing play.
Deft touches by centre Nape Waka and Leka (goal attack) fed Albertine Ehari (goal shooter) who scored with each opportunity.
The plan to primarily use their starting seven for most of the match backfired as Telstars struggled to maintain their intensity allowing a fresher Paramana to pick off their shots.
Despite Paramana captain Renagi Mulina only playing a quarter her side never fell short of leadership on the court Gewa Raula (goal shooter) and Mari Otio (goal attack) and the directions from Vavine Iamo (center), the Paramanas capitalised on Telstars’ mounting error rate.
Mulina was lost for words and overwhelmed with the win and thanked her team for overcoming the hurdle.
“The girls played so hard coming from behind to win and I never lost confidence in their fighting spirit,” Mulina said.
Telstars veteran and PNG Pepes captain Leka on the other hand said it was not the best performance her team put up.
“With most of our girls injured and out of the city, we were only left with our starting seven and had a very inexperienced bench.
“This is the sixth year playing against Paramana and we had a good margin and should have held it.
“It is quite disappointing but the girls did very well,” Leka said.
PNA sponsor under the Rexona brand BNG’s assistant marketing manager Andrew Runawery congratulated Paramana on behalf of the company stating that BNG was proud to support netball and added that there was a possibility of extending the support for the competition next year.
