A Papua New Guinean wheel chair-bound woman has qualified to take on Fiji for the gold medal play-off today in para-table tennis at the Caritas gymnasium.

Vero Paul Nime from Chimbu will play against Fiji’s wheelchair player Merewalesi Roden.

Only three countries took part in the first stage of the women’s seated singles — PNG, Fiji and Solomon Islands.

After a round robin competition, Fiji came first and PNG came second after beating Solomon Islands 3-2.

Solomon’s Glenda Soahaga is automatically set up for the bronze, leaving Fiji and PNG to compete for the gold medal this afternoon.

Also in the men’s division Fiji will go up against PNG, both competing for the gold medal.

In another separate event for women’s ambulant singles New Caledonia’s Delphine Andre will go up against Vanuatu’s Mali Ramel for the play off of the gold medal today.

In the women’s singles event, PNG’s Dia Isi Morea came in fourth after losing three matches to Tahiti’s Rachel Hsiao, Vanuatu’s Rosanna Abel and Shriti Jeet of Fiji.
