Parish ‘happy’ to remember arrival of missionaries

THE Saint Anne Dirima Parish in Gumine, Chimbu, plans to hold its 70th anniversary next week.
The first Catholic Divine Word missionaries went to Dirima in 1948 to spread the gospel and to restore peace among the people of the Dirima, Uri and Kole tribes.
“We are happy to mark this special and meaningful day when missionaries brought the word of God to the Highlands, especially to the people of South Chimbu,” Parish priest Father Peter Kim said.
“On this very special occasion, the Catholic people of Dirima wish to thank the Lord for the Divine Word missionaries who brought to them the good news of Jesus Christ.
“We will recognise and acknowledge the good work done by missionaries and remember those who have lost their lives and also remember our Christians and church members who have died.” Kim said the event would reflect on what had been achieved, what went wrong and to rebuild the faith in love and peace.
The mass is expected to be led by Archbishop of the Kundiawa diocese Bishop Anthon Bal with the combined programme of the Yobai, Nodri and Wara-Mon parishes.
