Parishioners raise K18,000 in church fundraising

THE Wewak Memorial United Church in East Sepik raised more than K18,000 during a fundraising (Boubou) celebration on Sunday.
The church ground was packed to capacity with parishioners and visitors who saw regional groups perform.
Groups from the New Guinea Islands, Central, and Milne Bay, Gulf and Western and others from the Sepik region performed dances and presented their contributions (boubou) to the organising committee.
Congregants and visitors said they were inspired to see the church taking steps to build its capacity.
The celebration is a lead up event for the United Church to prepare for the annual London Missionary Society (LMS) Day on Saturday (Nov 23).
This was the time when the gospel reached the Southern region through the Methodist Church Mission, which was then converted to United Church in the early 1940s.
