NCD Governor Powes Parkop has committed K1 million to Moresby South women who are engaged in various small to medium enterprise (SME) activities. Over 30,000 women of Moresby South, who are registered members in 320 different business associations, will become beneficiaries of this funding allocation. Parkop made the commitment recently. “We have a long way to go, and what I’ve done to assist our women of Moresby South and our Motu Koitabu women, including our women of North West and North East, is to setup an SME Service Centre which will determine exactly what our women are doing in business and how best the centre can assist in financial management, banking and savings so that our women are progressing and growing,” he said. Parkop said Moresby South was the most progressive district in the city thanks to the efforts of MP Justin Tkatchenko and he was pleased to allocate the funding to boost small businesses there as well as empowering women. The governor also stressed the need to establish mechanisms to monitor the growth and success of women in business and not give handouts without and accountability or systems in place. Parkop said he had a strong working relationship with Tkatchenko and, together, they had been able to achieve results in the district. He also challenged the women to manage their businesses and finances well in order to grow their businesses and build their communities. He advised them not to allow eternal factors to divert business funds to other uses.  He said what was meant for the Parkop business needed to be used for the business and what was meant for personal and family should be used as such. He added that accountability and discipline were crucial for success. Tkatchenko thanked Parkop and said Moresby South women would work hard to prove themselves by developing businesses and managing them to help develop the district.
