Parkop congratulates PM, tells colleagues to expect challenging Opposition

National Capital District Governor and Social Democratic Party leader Powes Parkop says the Government can expect a “more-formidable” Opposition in this term of Parliament.
He said this yesterday when congratulating Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on his election yesterday.
The election followed a rowdy morning session in Parliament yesterday.
Members of the Opposition were not present when O’Neill returned from Government House after presenting himself to Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.
“You deserve to be the prime minister but we face a lot of challenges,” Parkop told O’Neill. Our brothers on the other side are not here because they are passionate about these challenges. As you can see, they will be formidable opponents and Opposition from day one, so we cannot be complacent.”
Parkop said O’Neill “deserves to win again. Despite all the criticism, let’s put credit where it’s due,” he said.
“Compare that to the record of other governments in the past. Prime minister, I congratulate you.  You have done well, you deserve to be the prime minister now, but we face a lot of challenges.”
