NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has welcomed the National Executive Council‘s (NEC) decision to have education services in NCD come under the NCD Commission.
He said Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy would soon make a formal announcement about the decision.
“I am very pleased and I want to thank the minister and the NEC for making this decision,” Parkop told The National. He said elementary, primary and secondary education in NCD had not developed to its highest potential.
“The teaching and learning environment is still substandard and we can make a lot of difference and change so that we give our children and teachers a better learning and teaching environment,” he said.
“I am determined to do that.”
Parkop said his plans to improve education services in NCD would be announced as soon as the transfer was done.
“We in the capital city and everywhere in the country deserve to have education services, teaching and learning environment as good as anywhere in the world.
“We can absolutely do it.
“We will be looking at additional educational curriculum such as health, environment, responsibilities, leadership and ethics that can be taught in schools so it helps guide our young people,” Parkop said.
He said the provincial education board would be reorganised.
