Parkop: Queries super fund benefits
The National, Tuesday September 17th, 2013
NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has urged the government to consider long-term initiatives for public servants such as housing schemes under its superannuation plans.
Parkop told parliament last Friday that there are many public servants who were members of the superannuation funds but were not being assisted properly with long-term benefits.
He asked Treasury Minister Don Polye if the government could properly direct public servants benefits from the government’s superannuation initiatives – Nambawan Supa and Nasfund.
“One of the problems now is the superannuation funds have money but there is no better benefits for the members,” he said.
“Nambawan Supa and Nasfund have been restructured and are doing fine by making good money but they are not spending the money to properly benefit the members they have.
“We cannot wait for the members to die and remit them the money. Houses must be built for members to enjoy.”
Parkop said the two organisations must not go on building hotels but start considering building housing schemes for the members.
