Parkop supports women
The National, Tuesday February 2nd, 2016
THE new Well Women’s’ Clinic in NCD will be opened and used for cervical cancer screening next month.
Governor for National Capital District Powes Parkop presented a cheque of K100,000 to fight against cervical cancer alongside with NDC Health services.
Parkop when addressing the crowd at Jack Pidik Park last Saturday said the turn out showed that the people of NCD did not want unnecessary deaths from cervical cancer.
“We need actions from the authorities today,” Parkop said.
He said cervical cancer was a preventable disease and unnecessary deaths should not take place.
“Mothers do not have to die if we have early vaccination and screening.”
He said the event was a turning point for mothers and girls to stop dying for this dreadful disease.
“We can stop and prevent it if early vaccination and screening is done.”
He said it was a double tragedy for children to grow up without a mother who dies from cervical cancer.
He said the walk required people to take action and showed concern on the killer disease.
“We want a stop to this and we have made it clear today by coming out in large number,” he said.
He said the funds would be used to buy equipment for the Lawes Road Well Women’s Clinic for mothers to go for screening checks for cervical cancer.
Parkop said he had made this commitment to show women in NCD that they would never be left alone. “The Government and the health workers are with you, to see that you get right treatment,” he said. Parkop also pledged a K200,000 cheque to support Rotary Boroko in carrying out the vaccination programme for girls in NDC between the ages of 9 and 13.
He said the NDC Government is ready to fund health services in the district. He assured the NCD Health Services that he would support it in terms of fundings.
