THE National Capital District Commission presented a cheque for K30,000 to the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee to assist PNG athletes to this year’s Rio Olympics.
Governor Powes Parkop, while presenting the cheque to PNGOC secretary general Auvita Rapilla at City Hall yesterday, said it would be of greater help if all the residents of Port Moresby took part in the Walk for Life that would collaborate with the Fun Run on Sunday.
“I’m expecting the residents to take part in the Walk for Life and Fun Run to show support for the PNG athletes who will take part in the Rio Games,” Parkop said.
“The walk and run will show support for our athletes while we do something beneficial for our health.”
He said he would provide the NCDC service buses for pickup and dropoff in the morning and afternoon.
Rapilla, in responding to Parkop, thanked the commission for their support.
“This contribution will help Team PNG with their preparations for the Games,” Rapilla said.
She acknowledged Trukai Industries, who had been a major supporter of the PNGOC.
Walk for Life and Yoga for Life programme general manager Fazilah Bazan said her programme had 3000 Fun Run t-shirts, 500 of which were given to the city commission’s staff.
