THE parliamentary Standing Orders will be reviewed to ensure the nation has a modernised parliamentary system, Speaker Job Pomat says.
He was replying to a question from Angoram MP Salio Waipo on whether the Government through the Speaker had any plans to review the Standing Orders which were about five decades old.
Waipo said some of the Standing Orders were outdated and needed to be reviewed to ensure they were in line with standards in modernised parliamentary systems.
Pomat said the Standing Orders needed to be reviewed to ensure a modernised system.
“When I first elected to be the Speaker of this Parliament, I did make a statement earlier that I will try my best to bring back the integrity of our Parliament.
“That was a simple statement I made and part of that statement meant to revisit our Parliamentary Standing Orders.
“I have had discussions with the Parliament Clerk to review the Standing Orders to ensure we have a modernised parliamentary system for young leaders to follow.”
