Participants undergo life skills training
The National, Thursday July 24th, 2014
THE government and those who completed a Ginigoada business development training at Lae Urban council Ward 1 hope the life skills learnt will open doors for them sooner than later.
Major Sere Kala, the first secretary to Minister for Community Development Loujaya Kouza, assured the 244 people who obtained certificates after training that settlements in Lae would be setting a precedence if they made a living through their skills.
That would help make the city an intelligent industrial hub instead of an unemployment burden, Kala said
In Ahi, 600 participants were yet to obtain similar certificates.
Ginigoada has been changed to Talac Ngang-Ga, meaning ‘steadfast’ in the Yabem dialect of Morobe to suit its situation.
“The Government believes that its agencies must work at community levels and create opportunities by providing necessary life skills to enable people achieve their aspirations,” Kala said.
It aspires to cut the 75% unemployment rate to a manageable level by 2017.
The courses included gender-based violence, sex and human reproduction, mobile money transactions, business awareness, pricing and costing, budget and cash flows, start your business and building confidence.
The courses were held over two weeks.
