Parties form alliance until 2017 polls
The National, Monday February 16th, 2015
THE ruling People’s National Congress Party and United Resources Party have agreed to fight the 2017 general election together.
Prime Minister and PNC Party leader Peter O’Neill signed an agreement with Transport Minister and URP leader William Duma last Friday.
“We have formed an alliance to go together to the next elections in 2017,” O’Neill said.
“This alliance is to strengthen our relationship during the term of this government, and of course, enter the 2017 elections as a coalition partner.
“It is important that we have stability in government and stability in political relationships.” The two parties will together pick their candidates for the next general election. O’Neill said the other coalition partners – the People’s Progress Party and National Alliance party – had pledged their support during the 2015 Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby.
