A MEMORANDUM of understanding (MoU) was signed last Friday between Rabaul, East New Britain (ENB) government and Livestock Development Corporation Ltd (LDCL).
The signing was held at the Rabaul district administration office at Kurakakaul.
Rabaul MP Dr Allan Marat said the MoU reflected the plan and scheme of development of the livestock and cattle ranching industry in Kurakakaul.
Marat said the MoU contained the agreements that would enable the growth and sustainability of the livestock industry.
He said PNG was rich in renewable and non-renewable resources and one of those renewable resources was livestock.
“We see livestock everywhere starting from the ward level to the national level and it is how we organise livestock that shows everyone how serious we are with caring for economic animals such as free-range chicken, ducks, pigs and other edible livestock,” he said.
He said land was important for the livestock industry.
“Land is vital for the production of livestock and cattle ranches anywhere in the world and in our country PNG, land is life,” he said.
“This MOU assumes that there will be sufficient qualified labour for the livestock and cattle ranching project.”
