THE Konoagil LLG and Namatanai district administration must hold meaningful dialogue with the New Ireland provincial government concerning the newly-launched multi-million kina Konoagil oil palm project, a company official says.
Laka Forest Development Limited chief executive officer Walter Schnaubelt made this remark in a recent land ownership dispute resolution gathering at the old Metlik coconut plantation in the Konoagil LLG.
“If you want to know the progress of the developer and how the oil palm is going to be developed, invite me for an open forum.
“I can sit with you and explain rather than you saying misleading statements about the project,” Schnaubelt said.
“I’m going to be honest with you, till today, your LLG (Konoagil) and Namatanai district have only been condemning me and the project which will create 4000 jobs.
“There wasn’t any request for me to do a presentation for the LLG, like we did for the New Ireland provincial government through the provincial forest management committee and the road show conducted for the Namatanai district administration held at the Namatanai Lodge on Aug  21, 2014.
“All my attempts in getting the LLG to appreciate the project have been exhausted.”
He told the two public servants that if they wanted to know more about the project, they should consult the New Ireland provincial government.
“It was the provincial forest management committee that unanimously gave the approval for the development to commence.”
