OK Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) is working closely with the State and the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum to ensure risks to data security and confidentiality in mineral production are mitigated, an official says.
Managing director and chief executive officer Musje Werror said this when responding to queries from The National on how under the revised Mining Act, all mining operations were obligated to provide this information to MRA.
Mineral Resources Authority’s (MRA) managing director Jerry Garry had said the authority planned to establish a mineral repository at its headquarters in Port Moresby to monitor copper and gold production in the country for all mining operations.
Garry said the mineral repository would provide real time visibility on how much mining operations were producing. “The revised Mining Act requires all mines to provide live production data to the MRA,” Werror said.
“OTML is working closely with the MRA and the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum to agree on a scope and ensure key risks such as data security and confidentiality are mitigated.”
Garry had said that the authority would also conduct a survey at potential deep copper and gold bodies to take stock of the country’s reserves.
He said this would give confidence to the country’s mining industry in term of its continuity.
