THE public-private partnership between the Education Department and Treid Pacific PNG Ltd has resulted in the production of three new student activity books.

Treid Pacific and the department are utilising local curriculum writers to build capacity and help students and teachers with much-needed resources.

The activity books – Grade 6 social sciences, Grade 5 physical education and Grade 5 English and language – were launched by acting Education Secretary Dr Michael Tapo last Thursday.

Tapo reiterated that public-private partnership was clear on government policies.

“This is an important occasion and it supports the Government’s policies on education,” Tapo said.

He added that it was important to utilise teachers who had experience in writing curriculum.

“We don’t need to go abroad, we must keep our mental property and utilise the local talent.”

First assistant-secretary for standards and curriculum Dr Eliakim Apelis said Chimbu and NCDC were the only two provinces utilising local teachers and producing textbooks.

“Without the publishing industry, the education system would not evolve. It is important for the publishing industry to partner in developing resources for education,” Apelis said.
