Partnership signed to provide logistical service to mine

A JOINT venture agreement to provide logistics to the K92 mine in Eastern Highlands was signed between the NKW Group’s Pacific Cargo Services (PCS) and landowner company Bildeco on Friday.
PCS general manager Peter Hickey said the resources the NKW Group was bringing to the joint venture were the expertise in the transport sector, capital and training and safety procedures that were crucial in the mining industry.
“Because of our capacity, NKW Group is a 100 per cent Papua New Guinea landowner company, I think this is a very unique partnership between two landowner groups in PNG,” he said.
“I think it could be the first where two LOs have a bond from the resources industries being NKW with Hidden Mine Harmony Gold and now K92 mine landowner group 100 per cent owned through Bildeco to come together.
“I think it’s a very unique opportunity to show what PNG can do between two landowner groups and develop into a very sizeable transport logistic group.
“There is no need for overseas companies to come in and do this.
“We can do it on our own with PNG resources and PNG people and that is what this joint venture is all about.”
K92 senior vice-president operations Warren Uyen said the mine was growing and partnerships were important for the success of the company.
Bildeco chairman Bantia Timpoke said the mine had given the LOs three major contracts in were in catering, security and transport.
“The contract for catering and security was already signed and today we are signing for transport,” he said.

  • Kainantu mine has been in operation for some years and it is good to see a landowner company jv with another landowner company to get sizable contracts. The important thing is skills transfer and realizing profit for the landowners. Don’t let jv partner rib us off, be on guard all the time.

I have seen many outsider jv partners rip off landowner companies in Porgera Gold Mine and I don’t want that happening in Kainantu. Am available for Consultations if needed.

  • There are many mining taking place in the country, they should come out clear in their annual reporting their financial contribution to the economy so that people will appreciate. Now we have no idea how much a mining company is contributing financially to this nation. Small mining can be done by locals, why not government promote them.
