THE Papua New Guinea Women in Agriculture (PNGWiA) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) launched a 20-hectare land project for seed planting in Morobe earlier this month.
The project aims to address food security.
PNGWiA president Maria Linibi said they were working closely with the Morobe emergency Covid-19 team that allowed stakeholders such as DAL, National Agriculture Research Institute, Trukai Industries, Fresh Produce Development Agency and Taiwan Technical Mission to work together to prepare land for seed planting.
Linibi said the stakeholders’ contributions would include provision of seeds, planting materials, and farming machinery.
“All of us are contributing to develop and support this initiative to support the displaced workers and farmers in getting clean planting material on the ground,” she said.
“We hope to address this and we would like it to be continued so that we can always be providing clean seeds.”
