THE China Railway International Group is working in partnership with the State to establish an agriculture industry park to address market issues, an official says.
Team leader Brian Waii said they had been waiting two years for Cabinet approval. “The prime minister (James Marape) has been continuously saying to bring the market closer to the people or the farmers,” he said.
“How can we bring the market closer to the farmers? You need completeness. “The market involves the infrastructure and biosecurity services.
“You need a lot of those infrastructure, storage facilities and value chain.
“We need to bring the market to the people in a complete form so they can enjoy, so when we take that to the farmers, we are unlocking the locked up capital: human and land capital.”
Waii said they were planning to have two types of industrial parks.
Central industrial parks will be located in places closer to the ports.
He said they were planning to establish all the complete systems like biosecurity issues and processing in place in order to get the farmers to get their products out.
