Party begins re-imaging exercise
The National, Tuesday July 15th, 2014
ONE of the country’s oldest political parties has begun a re-imaging exercise in preparation for the 2017 general election.
The Papua and Niugini Union Pati (Pangu) began with a one-day convention in Port Moresby last week which saw the election of new executives who include Patrick Pundao as president, Andrew Iraum (vice-president) Morris Tovebae (general secretary) and Lydia Kapera (treasurer).
Pangu, which led PNG to self government and independence, has had MPs in Parliament since the 1977 general election but failed to return any in the 2012 election. The party is determined to change that in 2017 with an early start.
The party said major changes had been done which included the transformation of its national executives. Instead of the traditional non-parliament wing and the parliament wing, changes were made to the party’s constitution which created a leadership position that unified both executives, a statement from the party said.
