Party picks by-election candidate

THE Country Party ,led by Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta, has picked Wilson Thompson Orlegge as its candidate for the Goroka by-election.
Orlegge, from Kabiufa in Goroka, has been a public servant since 1995 and served in government institutions in Port Moresby and Eastern Highlands.
He is also president of the Farmers and Settlers’ Association and advocates for agriculture, rural business and agro-processing sector.
Haiveta said Country Party had a strong following in Goroka through previous MPs and neighbouring provinces because it was a party for the ordinary people who relied on land and agriculture for survival.
Orlegge said he would work with the party to push for the benefit of farmers, small-medium enterprises and urban population.
“The poor and run-down state of the provincial capital that hosts three local level governments reflects poor leadership and blind persons leading the electorate,” he said.
Country Party president Nelson Duwabane said Orlegge was a candidate who had the vision and passion to change the face of Goroka.

  • He is someone who has a Great Vision for the People with is well articulated and structured policies for the Agricultural sector and also policies that will benefit most of our subsistence farmers.
He will be going against the big dogs.
