Party president dies
The National, Monday July 14th, 2014
PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has expressed his sadness at the death of Simon Korua, one of Papua New Guinea’s successful businessmen and president of the People’s National Congress Party.
Korua, from Mul, Western Highlands, died last Monday in Cairns, Australia, after a short illness. He was in his early 60s.
“Korua pioneered a number of businesses in the early 1980s and guided them to become successful ventures in the country today, providing employment and opportunities to thousands of Papua New Guineans throughout the country,” O’Neill said.
“The People’s National Congress Party has enjoyed a very successful association with him since he joined in 2010.
“On behalf of my family, the people of Ialibu-Pangia, and the PNC party, I extend my heartfelt condolence to Simon’s immediate family and relatives in this time of mourning.”
