THE PNG National Party is neutral and aims to have the numbers in the coming election to form the next government, president David Yak says.
Speaking at the party’s annual general meeting on Monday, Yak said the party was a national institution as it had played a major role in the country’s development so far.
“The party was established for a purpose, and now, in this year’s election, it will fulfil its purpose no matter what people may think of it,” he said.
Yak said the party aimed to make people successful and to ensure the nation faces changes.
“The success in a person, organisation or the country is proven by the trials, tests and tribulations they go through.
“These trials and tests confirms the strength, integrity and purpose of existence and the party is one of those that passed them and is aiming to bring in good governance,” Yak said.
He said gold was precious because it had been refined and the party had to go into the process of moulding and shaping in order to provide a real, solid and credible government.
He said in the history of PNG politics no member of parliament, who won an election under a party’s ticket, had ever been prosecuted for stealing or misconduct in office.
Yak said people needed leaders who have the heart and mind for the people.
He said the party was ready to take on board leaders who were prepared to sacrifice their lives, identify people’s needs and make laws in parliament to serve the people in their own villages, towns, cities, districts and provinces.
“Today you can see that no MP is representing the party on the floor of parliament.
“It means that the party is now well-prepared and has screened out the problems that has affected us,” Yak said.
He said good governance would always determine the quality of leadership and the National Party had secured such leaders to run in the next election.
Yak said the party was now serious about fighting corruption and bringing pride to the nation.
