A BUS heading from Mendi to Lai Valley in the Mendi Munihu last Friday went down the side of a hill, injuring it’s 15 passengers.
Southern Highlands police commander Martin Lakari confirmed that the accident happened around 4pm last week, after a return trip from Lai Vally with passengers from Mendi.
“The accident occurred at the Wiri section of the road,” he said.
“The bus reached a sharp corner when it slipped off the road and rolled down a steep incline of between 200-300 metres.”
Lakari said the accident could have been caused by mechanical failure.
“The bus rolled over several times and almost went into the Lai River.”
He said the 15 passengers including the driver and bus crew were injured and were admitted at the Mendi Hopital.
