Pastor calling on people to focus on God as PNG counts cost of earthquake

Faith

A female Pentecostal church pastor has urged the nation to focus and meditate on God’s Word so people can stand firm in faith and face challenges and trials in life.
Pastor Monica Ano, from Upa village in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, made these remarks following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake which hit the Highlands on February 26, claiming many lives and destroying property worth millions of kina.
Ano said that when such disasters took place, people must not fear death but focus on the Word of God so that they could remain strong. She said God’s word protected people and helped them stand firm and overcome fear and doubt.
“Fear has become one of the major obstacles in people’s lives since the earthquake struck the Highlands provinces,” Ano said.
“Many forgot that the earthquake and everything was created by God and they have to find protection in him.”
She said people should remain humble and read the Bible to find encouragement.
She said that when disasters happened, people needed to stay focused on their faith.
“God is the only hope we have to find protection and not anything else,” Ano said.
She said that the earthquake had made many people lose faith in God and were therefore missing out on his protection and grace.
