A storage section inside the Lorengau General Hospital on Manus Island caught fire early yesterday morning.
The hospital’s chief executive officer Robert Saliau, said the building constructed in the 1950s had no inflammables that could have caused the fire to spread to other buildings. The storage contained some drugs, mattresses, wheelchairs and handy tools. The fire caused panic among patients who had to evacuate the hospital at 2am.
Some patients fled as far as the Lorengau Harbourside Hotel.
