FOREIGN Affairs and Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato has approved the department’s corporate plan, focusing on five diplomatic strategies.
Pato said the plan focused on foreign policy development, plus institution human capacity building.
The five diplomatic strategies are:
- Mutual respect and supportive co-operation with Papua New Guinea’s immediate neighbours and close regional partners;
- refocusing on Asia-Pacific taking into account changes in the region;
- building partnership with countries and international organisations;
- good global citizenship – active participation in international organisations, respect for international laws, co-operation in addressing issues of global importance; and,
- Capacity building at headquarters and overseas missions.
“The department’s principal responsibility is representing PNG overseas and managing international connections and working closely with other government agencies,” Pato said.
