THE Pacific Adventist University in Port Moresby will host the Research, Science and Technology conference on from June 25-28.
The objective of the annual conference is to showcase, collaborate and share ideas on research work being undertaken by universities in Papua New Guinea.
This year’s theme is “Harnessing science and technology for development: Meeting the PNG 2050 Vision Targets.”
The chairman of the 2012 RST conference, Associate Prof Fifaia Matainaho, said the university was excited and ready to host the 2012 RST conference.
Research is one of the key pillars in the university’s strategic plan.
“The 2012 RST conference will help find a roadmap to achieve development targets for the PNG Vision 2050 through research in science and technology,” Matainaho said.
The university was the recipient of K50,000 from the RST programme under the Office of Higher Education (OHE) to support the running of the conference.
Presenting the cheque, RST programme executive officer Lisa Larry said the OHE was glad to help the university in funding for the 2012 conference.
Larry said this was the first time the university had received funding from the OHE and encouraged its academia to apply for more research grants.
In thanking the OHE, university deputy vice-chancellor Tracie Mafile’o said this conference would be a highlight in 2012 and the university welcomed the partnership with OHE, other government agencies, universities and industry to deliberate on how science and technology could cultivate positive development.
The PAU is inviting experts from academics, industries, research institutions and other interested parties for the 2012 RST conference.
