PAUL MINGA, 58, has a passion for writing. To prove it, he has completed 10 short stories which he plans to publish one day.
Minga regularly contributes stories to The National as a freelancer.
“I am hoping to get my short stories published. My 10 stories are about life experiences of people in a typically PNG perspective and is very interesting and motivating to read.”
He has story titles such as My First Plane Trip, Fishing on a wrong day, Karke: Shattered dreams, Scholarship award from letters and From a village girl to an executive.
“They are wonderful stories containing lessons that are educational and touching for students and youths.”
Others that are of interest to read are: Strange objects at school, Trip to Australia, Pain of murder, My little Paradise- Binzmua and Second overseas trip. Minga, from Banz local level government, North Wagi electorate of Jiwaka resides at the Five-Mile Ridge settlement in Port Moresby.
“I am a bachelor after several failed marriages. I taught as a teacher aid at Boroko Salvation Army Elementary school, worked as a store boy at the curriculum division of the department of education in Waigani.”
He urges more people to take up writing.
“Writing is a powerful tool that can address social issues faced today. If people can put their experiences into written form, we could do something to change the society.
“Actually I was not a good writer but when I started writing articles, I gradually started developing my ability. Now I am a bit okay. Not a trained journalist or writer but since I have the interest in writing, I persisted.
“As a first time writer, I would like to contribute to the development of my province and country through my book and leave a legacy. My stories are all of ideal for our students so I kindly call on the education department to assist me with editing and printing part of my book.
“I have approached many government officers and departments for help, as well as diplomatic houses, the prime minister’s office and business houses to help me to publish my book.
“I am also calling on the four Jiwaka MPs to find a company to print my book.”
He received K1500 from Moresby North East MP John Kaupa to help him achieve his plan.
“I struggle for seven long years trying to publish my book. I am really grateful to Hon John Kaupa for his assistance from his discretion funds to help out people with special talents.”
Minga does gardening and street sales to keep him going.
