Pay PNG Defence Force contractors

Letters

CONTRACTORS that have been engaged by the PNG Defence Force are still waiting for their long overdue payments since 2002.
Some contractors have had their bills sorted out while the majority are still queuing up at the PNGDF headquarters here at Murray Barracks waiting for their outstanding payments.
It is unfair.
There was a media circulation that the outstanding contractors bill payments would be sorted out in the late 2019.
Upon hearing the news, some of the contractors have flown into Port Moresby and waited since then. The phrases “come tomorrow, next week or follow up next month” is all they’ve been getting.
The contractors are fed up of the lame excuses.
Some of the contractors have passed on without compensation.
Their family members can be seen joining the queue sometimes.
The wait has created a lot of family problems such as marriage breakups.
The officers need to come clear and clean on this issue.
The contractors know that funds were already allocated.
As service providers, they know that they have to be compensated fairly as others.
The financial year is closing and the contractors want action.
To those in authority, please do have empathy and hear the plight of these weary contractors.
