I WOULD like to congratulate Veronica Payawi and UHWL for making the people of Hela proud of her achievement.
We never thought Hela women could make such an impact because our culture does not allow women to do so.
In a way, our culture is a hindrance to allowing our women to excel.
Although Payawi may not be the first in the country to contribute to the development of our women folk, she is certainly the first from the Hela region.
The sky is the limit, as they say.
I also support the call by HTA chairman James Marape for UHWL to expand its membership to all women from Hela irrespective of their educational or social status to buy shares in the company.
Then it will become a Hela women’s entity.
To the faithful women who have started this, you have done extremely well.
On this token, I also like to congratulate Shirley Komboli for setting the pace for other women in Hela to pursue.
She has demonstrated that women can become successful in business just like their male folk.
From a humble beginning, she has established herself in her business in Tari town.
Her achievements clearly show that Hela women can excel if they have the right frame of mind and attitude.
