Payment of K14,000 plus pigs for killing

A TOTAL of K14,000 and 14 pigs were paid at Laiagam in Enga as part-compensation to maintain peace and understanding following the killing of two people in Mt Hagen on April 30.
The peace ceremony was conducted on Aug 23 by the Walin tribe of Aiyak village who apologised to the relatives of a man from Tomba in Western Highlands and a woman from Chuave in Chimbu for their deaths.
The man from Tomba and the woman were shot at Kimininga village in Mt Hagen.
These deaths were related to the deaths of two Enga men from Laiagam who were killed in Mt Hagen during a clash between the Jika Malakamb clan of Mt Hagen and the Laiagams at Tarangau on April 29.
The Engans in retaliation gunned down two people the next day in their homes.
However, the Walin tribe gave K7000 and seven pigs each to the relatives of the man and woman killed.
Aproper compensation payment will be made later.
