Peace as Mt Hagen puts on show

THE 58th Mt Hagen cultural show ended peacefully yesterday afternoon and to the satisfaction especially of the international visitors.
Many doubted the success of the show coming at the back of a troublesome election, however, the
people’s behaviour proved all sceptics wrong.
Mt Hagen police personnel comprising of the task force, general duties and the mobile squad have worked hard and ensured that the show ended peacefully.
About 100 locals from surrounding communities were also engaged to assist police.
About 100 singsing groups from the highlands and coastal areas made the day colourful and entertained the crowds including 400 tourists.
The show was sponsored by the Western Highlands provincial government.
The Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) gave K50,000, Ela Motors gave K10,000 and Bmobile presented K5000 in cash and merchandise.
Other sponsors were SP Brewery, Dae Won Trading, Trukai Industries, Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited, Niugini Tours and Highlander Hotel.
The show will be moved to its original location at Kagamuga next year.
Show committee Gabriel Kuntina officially closed the show yesterday.
