Peace prevails in city
A PEACE ceremony was held in Port Moresby on Sunday between the people from Hela and Eastern Highlands living at Erima following a fight last Thursday.
The fight started when a security guard from Eastern Highlands was attacked and robbed. It lasted three days with people from both sides injured.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Met Supt Perou N’dranou witnessed the peace ceremony.
A petition was also given to Parkop.
Parkop thanked the two groups for coming together and resolving their differences.
He promised to look into the contents of the petition.
He plans to meet the leaders of both sides on Friday.
Parkop announced that a police post would be set up at Erima because of the increase in crime there every day.
He has arranged with a security firm to provide training to people living there who want to provide security in the area.
N’dranou said police would continue to patrol the area and call on the people to respect their decision to stop fighting.
