Peace will only come from the people: PPC

TRIBAL leaders in Tari town, Hela, must find a long-term solution to their fighting, provincial police commander Chief Superintendent Martin Lakari says.
Lakari said peace would come only from the people.
Five people, including a mother, were killed in Tari during the Eastern weekend. The deaths were believed to be payback killings following the death of Tari urban ward councillor late Hebe Yaparia.
A senior public servant in the province said the fighting was affecting the distribution of relief supplies to the people affected by the earthquake.
He said public servants engaged in the relief operations in Hela had fled after the killings.
Security forces were monitoring the tribal fights.
Lakari said the long-term solution depended on leaders of the warring factions.
“I appeal to the leaders from the two warring tribes to lay down their arms and talk peace,” he said.
Lakari said people must not live in fear forever.
He said fighting was a bad and a thing of the past.
“People now don’t want to talk about tribal fights or involve in the fights.’
