POLICE in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, have reported peaceful Christmas celebrations and partying in the city.
Provincial police commander Kaiglo Ambane said the same mood was reported from trouble spots such as Warakum, HMI, Tarangau, Bata Compound and Tee School areas.
“However, no trouble was reported from these areas,” he said.
Ambane said in many parts, people had celebrated Christmas peacefully by going to church.
“People had cooperated with police to maintain peace during the festive season and they should continue doing that.”
He said police would continue with the Christmas and New Year operation.
The operation was part of a pre-election operation and would continue until the election period.
Ambane said police would set up roadblocks and warned that any one transporting illegal weapons, ammunition or
items would be arrested and charged.
He said unlike in the past there was no fatal accident on the road.
Police would be monitoring traffic infringements and Ambane said motorists should ensure that their vehicles were road worthy.
