Peipul’s death a loss to PNG

Letters, Normal

I would like to pay homage, on behalf of the Ulga-Upka tribesmen, on the sudden passing of one of their brothers – Peter Peipul.
He remained in the Southern Highlands as a Makai tribesman while others migrated to Nebilyer and lived there as Ulga tribesmen.
He successfully contested the Imbonggu Open seat in 1997 after an illustrious career as a diplomat.
He became an envied student leader during his time at the University of PNG which served as a foundation for his leadership in his career and politics.
While serving as an MP, he also became cabinet minister.
Such statesman of his calibre would be hard to find and will sadly be missed.
I would like to convey our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family.
May his soul rest in peace.
