National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou says all police officers who were involved in blocking off the Gordon Police Barracks gate on Friday will be penalised.
N’Dranou said it was wrong for the officers to stage a protest against an administrative decision to close down the barracks and relocate its residents. The 150 officers and their families blocked off the barracks gate after the barracks commander told them that the single quarters block would be demolished.
The officers and their families blocked off the barracks gate as early as 4am and called for the police hierarchy to explain why they were being evicted with no relocation plans.
One of the officers told The National that they were willing to move out but the police hierarchy had to come up with a relocation plan.
“Where will our families live as we continue our duties?”
Twenty of the officers were supposed to be relocated to Bomana but were promised an alternative accommodation to relocate to while the rest of the officers moved in after the previous tenants moved to Bomana.
A contractor has already started marking the area to knock down the single quarters that is home to the 150 officers and their families.
