People at care centre need food

Letters

ON behalf of the peope of Kadovar Island at the Dandan care centre, I would like to mention a life threatening situation we faced that need immediate government intervention.
We were forced against our will by a natural disaster to leave our home and there is no one to be blamed.
However, in such unplanned scenarios, someone is still responsible.
I am now appealing to our governor Allan Bird, Wewak open member Kevin Isifu, Wewak Island LLG president and East Sepik Provincial disaster office to quickly send a team to assess the current situation at the care centre.
People are fighting for their lives in order to survive.
For the last four months, we have been living without food.
We are selling donated items such as cloths, kitchen wares, jerry cans and other donated items to locals in exchange for food.
These will soon run out and people are now planning to sell water tanks.
I am speaking from my heart as we don’t have other option since we are strangers on someone else’s land.
We are doing this for our own survival.
We have approached those in charge of Kadovar relief account but was told that there was no money.
We received little help from Wewak district last week who donated one ton of rice.
We are thankful but how can this 50 bales of rice feed more than 800 people?
Life in the care centre is very painful.
Can someone out there please come to our aid?
We desperately need food.
Donated items such as cloths, pots, plates, dishes, etc… were used in exchanged for food with locals and soon we will have nothing.
Please our good governor and member, we need clarification on how can we survive for the rest of our life in this strange land if you didn’t arrange for a permanent resettlement.
We need explanation on how things were handled to find a good and lasting solution.
