People of Gulf do not want to be spectators

Letters

THE people of Baimuru and Ihu sub districts in the Gulf agree in principle with Governor Havila Kavo and the Gulf provincial government’s stance that the developer Total SA and the State must agree to build Papua LNG Project within Baimuru and Ihu sub districts of Gulf.
When the developer Total SA took over the Papua LNG Project, they did not have any consultations with Gulf government and the people of Baimuru, Ihu and Gulf until  Kavo and his people started expressing dissatisfaction on certain decisions that were made by the developer and the State without the input of the Gulf  government and its people including decision to build pipeline to Caution Bay in Central.
Kavo’s stance on no-pipeline to Caution Bay is the stance of the people of Baimuru, Ihu, Kikori and Gulf and it is non-negotiable until the State and  Total SA has met with the people of Gulf  and explained explicitly  what is in there for us in terms of developments, benefits and other business spin-off.
The people of Gulf  do not want to be spectators from the resources development in their own land.
We will agree with the State and Total SA only if the proposed pipeline is a win-win arrangement for the developer, the state, the people of Baimuru, the people of Ihu, the Gulf government and the people of Gulf.
